What is an AKC Pointing Breed Field Trial?

AKC Field Trials are designed for hunting breeds to compete against each other. Trials give dog owners and trainers a way to stimulate the athleticism, stamina, courage, and instinct of their dogs.  There are categories for Field Trials. German Shorthaired Pointers compete in Pointing Breed Field Trials. Some trials allow handlers to compete while handling from horseback and others are considered walking only trials.

Pointing breeds for AKC trials include Brittany Spaniels, Pointers, German Shorthaired Pointers, German Wirehaired Pointers, English Setters, Gordon Setters, Irish Red & White Setters, Irish Setters, Vizslas, Spinone Italiano, Weimaraners, Wirehaired Pointing Griffons and Wirehaired Vizslas.
